Lower blood sugar levels, quit smoking, curb the urge to overeat!

I was browsing the internet this morning and came across a past article about our cinnamon toothpicks and the health benefits of cinnamon. Very interesting information, definitely worth a re-post!

Cinnamon Curbs the Urge and More

September 15, 2010

HESPERIA, Calif., Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ — The use of cinnamon dates back over 4,000 years. It has a broad range of historical health applications in different cultures, and over those years some of the anecdotal uses included boosting cognitive function and memory, treating rheumatism, helping with digestion and relieving certain menstrual disorders. In addition, when added to food, it inhibits bacterial growth and food spoilage, making it a natural food preservative.
A more significant use was recently discovered at the United States Department of Agriculture. Dr. John Andersonis found cinnamon beneficial for regulating glucose. In the body, sugars and starches are broken down into glucose, which then circulates in the blood. According to the research, cinnamon appears to mimic insulin and helps to drive glucose into the cells. This improved insulin function could be helpful for lowering blood sugar levels.
Cinnamon is also being recommended in a more current use: to help curb the urge for tobacco. The National Institute of Health recommends chewing cinnamon sticks when trying to quit the use of tobacco. Another effective product that people use to help with overeating and tobacco use is cinnamon toothpicks.
“A lot of our customers use our cinnamon toothpicks to help curb the urge to snack and smoke,” explains Randi Caporale, Operation Manager for Candy Crate, Inc. “Smoking Centers and Rehabilitation Centers are a big part of our Cinnamon Toothpick sales,” explains Caporale. Candy Crate recently launched their own line of Hot Cinnamon Toothpicks under the label of Taste-T-Picks. Candy Crate decided to get into this niche market after their existing supplier stopped production and customers were anxious for a replacement, so they started working on an “All Natural” Cinnamon Toothpick. “The only other comparable product out there contains sugar and artificial flavoring,” explains Caporale. “Our flavored toothpicks contain pure cinnamon oil – that’s it – simple and pure tasty picks.”
Some people like to chew it, others enjoy baking with it. From seasoning main dishes to desserts, to helping folks curb their urges, cinnamon has proved to be a popular ingredient in foods and a spice with many health benefits. Fill the kitchen with the sweet smell of cinnamon when you cook next time and you may be doing more for yourself than just satisfying your taste buds.

Not to be outdone by the ladies in the office...

Our warehouse guys had a little fun of their own this week!

With our staff cheering them on, Maniac Mike (left) and Reckless Ray (right) took to the table.
Both put up a good fight, but in the end the Reckless Ray pulled ahead to score the big win.

Rematch to be announced.
Because obviously we have to wait until our boss' next vacation.

Our boss is out of town this week....

She went on a Disney cruise! We're not bitter at all. Who would want to spend a week with Mickey on the open sea with the clear blue sky overhead and a tropical drink in their hand? Not us, that's who!

We're keeping busy. Just today some of our lovely ladies that work in the office had a race. Yep, a race. A penguin pooper race to be exact.
We have Tracy in the green bow, Jessica with the red, and Niki with the yellow. Just when Miss Green started to pull ahead, Miss Yellow got a little erhm...push...and pulled off the big win!

It's obvious how much more fun we're having here than our boss is on her cruise. Racing penguins over snorkeling and sun tanning, it's a no-brainer really.

Like I said, we're not bitter. Not at all.

Bunny Tails and Candy Flowers!

To make the sweet spring flowers above you need: Necco Wafers, a hot glue gun, Brach's pastel candy corn, wooden skewers, and Lemonheads.
Stack 5 Necco Wafers together, hot gluing each to the one above it, allow to dry completely.
Attach the flat side of your skewer to the bottom of the stack, holding in place until dry.
Glue the pastel corn around the top wafer, forming petals and leaving a small space in the center. Attach one Lemonhead to the center with glue.

You can also add Lemonheads to Bunny Peeps to add cute bunny tails. :)
